Honey

SMALL BUT WITH A BIG GOAL

We have about a hundred hives, divided into smaller groups. We transfer them during the year into various areas adjacent to the Cooperative, between the woods of the Valle Scrivia, the Colli Tortonesi Hills and the flat area of Pontecurone.

We follow them with great care throughout the season, to follow their development. Bees play a pivotal role in the pollination of the plants in our vineyards and fields, and are essential for the territory’s biodiversity and protection. Thanks to their work, we obtain different qualities of honey and propolis - which we use for the plants, due to their fungicidal and antibacterial properties - and wax, that we use for the reconstruction of hive frames.

ACACIA

This honey, one of the clearest, is liquid and has a very low crystallization rate, due to its richness in fructose. Its scent is very soft, floral with hints of vanilla, its taste is sweet and delicate.

Production area: Colli Tortonesi

CHESTNUT

Its color ranges from amber to black, it has a strong scent, floral and balsamic. Taste and smell are similar, pungent at first and then slightly bitter.

Production area: Fraconalto

LIGHT MILLEFIORI

The most authentic and pure expression of the harvesting area, able to call to mind the smells, colors and flavors of the wild flowers of the flat plain, mainly alfalfa and linden. It crystallizes quickly due to the high concentration of glucose. It has soft and floral aromas.

Production area: Pontecurone

MOUNTAIN MILLEFIORI

Mostly made of honeydew, it doesn’t come from nectar but from a sugary substance produced by aphids, subsequently collected by bees. It is particularly rich in minerals.

Production area: Garadassi

CORIANDER

Aromatic, it evokes the scent of coconut. Fast crystallizing honey, aromatic and medicinal plant of the Apiaceae family. Only recently started in italy.

Production area: Pontecurone

MELATA

Its name comes from Metcalfa pruinosa, an insect that feeds on the plant’s sap and expels the sugary part, later collected by the bees. The honey remains liquid for a long time, presenting a dark color, almost black. The smell has earthy and fruity hints, while the taste is not very sweet, of medium intensity. It calls to mind molasses, dates or fig jam.
